Fire and gas automation upgrade

Upgrade of the fire and gas automation at the HPCL LPG bottling plant.

  • PlatformsPLC/SCADA, deluge control, fire water pump sequencing

The brief

HPCL wanted the fire and gas automation at its LPG bottling plant in Visakhapatnam upgraded to the OISD-STD-144 deluge and fire water arrangement.

What we built

Detection loops trigger the area deluge valve; ring main pressure drop starts fire engines in sequence; a jockey pump keeps the main above about 7 bar, to OISD-STD-144.

  • How the system responds

Detection loops in each area trigger that area's deluge valve. Water sprays from the pressurised ring main, and the pressure drop starts the fire engines in a set sequence.

  • Pressure held at all times

A jockey pump keeps the ring main above about 7 bar, compensating for leakage, so water is available the instant a deluge valve opens.

  • What the operator sees

The SCADA shows fire engine status with run hours and counters for each pump.
