The brief

BPCL needed its Mangalore LPG plant automated with a complete fire and gas system built in. We executed both in about five months.

What we built

Deluge valves, break glass units, sequenced fire engines, jockey pump and ROV control. A digital fire clock at the gate lights the zone where fire is detected, mapped across admin, MCC, sheds, pump house, gantry, sphere and bullet areas.

  • How the fire and gas system responds

Break glass units and detectors report to the PLC. When fire is detected in an area, that area's deluge valve opens, the fire engines start in sequence and the jockey pump holds ring main pressure. ROVs can be operated from the control room for emergency isolation.

  • The digital fire clock

Traditional LPG plants use a mechanical rotating arrow at the gate to show which zone is on fire. Our digital version is a lit zone map driven by the fire and gas PLC, covering the admin, MCC, sheds, pump house, gantry, sphere and bullet areas. Anyone entering the plant sees the affected area immediately.

  • After handover

BPCL also runs our auto dip posting at six plants, and we support its systems under annual maintenance.
